In 2017, over half the population in Sub-Saharan Africa had no bank account. That's for good reason—the fees are too high, the closest branch can be miles away, and nobody takes cards. Without access to financial institutions, people are forced to keep their savings under the mattress. Small business owners rely on lenders who charge extortionate rates. Parents spend hours waiting in line to pay school fees in cash.
We're solving this by building financial services that just work: no account fees, instantly available, and accepted everywhere. In places where electricity, water and roads don't always work, you can still send money with Wave. In 2017, we launched a mobile app in Senegal for cash deposit, withdrawal, and peer-to-peer and business payments. Now, we have millions of users across six countries and are growing fast.

How you'll help us achieve it
Wave is now the largest financial institution in Senegal, with over 7 million users. And we’re still in the early days of our product roadmap and potential impact on people’s everyday lives.
Our Finance team plays a crucial role in ensuring financial efficiency and stability. From keeping accurate records of company activities to collaborating with internal and external stakeholders, they ensure financial resources are strategically allocated. By joining this team, you will help drive financial excellence, influence strategic decisions, and sustain Wave's growth and operational success.
In this role, you'll;
Accounts Payable management
- Manage the issuance of purchase orders and ensure all vendor invoices are properly received, matched, and approved.
- Review all APs and related financial transactions for sufficient, appropriate support documentation before payment, as per standard processes and procedures.
- Perform monthly supplier reconciliations for at least the top 50 suppliers by value and manage supplier contracts.
Financial Accounting and Reporting
- Ensure that all supplier invoices, staff reimbursements, accruals and other financial transactions are posted accurately and timely in SAGE intacct and in line with applicable IFRs and company policy.
- Oversee comprehensive reconciliation of ledger balances (Balance Sheet and Income statement) including Cash reconciliation, Payables aging (including vendor credit balances), PPE movements, and Staff accounts (travel advances, due from employees etc).
- Support in the coordination of annual statutory Audits in line with the internal reporting calendar.
Cash/ Treasury matters
- Prepare payment runs and coordinate the internal approval process.
- Initiate payments into the company's online bank systems promptly for authorization.
- Liaise with the cash management and liquidity teams to reconcile issues.
- Assist in the management of banking relationships including negotiation of Forex rates.
- Ensuring the optimal level of cash at the bank is maintained especially replenishing the shillings bank/cash accounts based on the planned payment runs.
Tax compliance
- Support in all tax matters correspondences (Internal & External) and the completion of the monthly tax computations and submission of tax returns to the tax authority.
- Coordinate the resulting tax settlement as per the Ugandan tax calendar.
- Assist in the provision of daily guidance to the internal team on the tax interpretations and impact on transactions.
Policies and Procedures
- Review, update and or set up new policies/procedures/guidelines/workflows relating to staff business travel accountabilities, cash advances, reimbursements etc.
- Assist in enforcement of continuous adherence to Internal financial controls in the company.
- Conduct regular refresher training to the Wave Uganda employees on existing policies as well as educating the team on the key changes to the policies.

- Location: You'll work from our office in Uganda.
- Work authorization in Uganda is required.
- This is a permanent position.

Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting/finance or a similar discipline.
- Part qualification in CPA/ ACCA is an added advantage.
- Familiarity with EFRIS is a must-have.
- Minimum of 3 years experience in accounting/auditing/finance.
- Strong experience with financial reporting requirements.
- Good computer skills especially in Word and Google Sheets/Excel.
- Experience in a multi-entity reporting environment.
