Job Description/Requirements

The Assistant Biomedical Engineer (Independent Contractor) will be responsible for supporting the installation, maintenance, and repair of biomedical equipment used across MUWRP’s clinics and laboratories. This role includes managing essential systems such as Liquid Nitrogen plants, refrigeration units, power backups, and air conditioning systems. The successful candidate will work closely with the biomedical engineering team to ensure that all equipment is operating efficiently, safely, and in compliance with operational standards.


Requirements

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in biomedical engineering or a related field.
  • Experience: A minimum of 1 year of hands-on experience in supporting, maintaining, and repairing biomedical equipment, including refrigeration and air conditioning systems.
  • Technical Knowledge: Proficient knowledge of biomedical equipment, power systems, and cooling technologies. Familiarity with Liquid Nitrogen plants and other specialized biomedical systems.


  • Perform routine preventive maintenance and emergency repairs on biomedical equipment, including Liquid Nitrogen plants, fridges, freezers, and various clinical and laboratory instruments.
  • Oversee the performance and maintenance of backup power systems such as generators, inverters, and UPS to ensure uninterrupted power supply to clinics and laboratories.
  • Monitor and maintain air conditioners and other cooling systems to ensure proper functioning in all relevant environments.
  • Provide on-site and remote technical support for biomedical equipment, ensuring that all devices meet performance and safety standards.
  • Train clinicians, laboratory personnel, and other users on the proper operation and maintenance of biomedical equipment.
  • Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, including service logs, inventory management, and compliance with MUWRP’s asset management policies. Prepare monthly performance reports and updates for stakeholders.
  • Keep an updated inventory of biomedical equipment, tracking warranties, maintenance schedules, and operational status. Ensure all equipment is tagged and logged according to MUWRP’s logistics policies.
  • Respond promptly to emergencies, including equipment malfunctions or system failures, and ensure swift resolution.
  • Conduct market research to stay updated on new biomedical equipment, making recommendations for upgrades or replacements to enhance operational efficiency.
