Eleglance Finance Limited is a privately owned microfinance institution dedicated to delivering benefits of financial services tailored to individuals, groups and SMEs that find it challenging to access services from mainstream banks. Our investment goes beyond providing capital but creating innovative solutions tailored towards the financial needs of a growing private equity. We opened doors in May 2012 and have since then expanded to several branches with our headquarters in Entebbe.
Job Summary: The Credit Manager oversees credit operations, aiming to improve performance, profitability, risk control, and customer service within the lending section. The role includes policy implementation, loan application processing, appraisal, disbursement, and recovery, ensuring compliance with Eleglance’s standards.
Key Responsibility Areas
Policy Compliance and Risk Management
- Implement and ensure adherence to Elegance’s lending policies and procedures across all branches.
- Review and approve loan applications, maintaining portfolio quality within acceptable risk parameters (Portfolio at Risk < 5%).
- Develop mechanisms for accepting various types of security (e.g., land titles, vehicle log books) in alignment with policy.
- Conduct regular branch inspections to ensure compliance, addressing any policy deviations.
Performance and Operations Management
- Prepare and monitor the departmental budget, ensuring branch compliance and achieving lending targets.
- Conduct periodic loan performance reviews, identifying delinquent accounts and initiating recovery actions.
- Supervise branch operations, ensuring accurate daily reporting and management of loan portfolios.
- Validates information received from individual credit officers regarding default payments, business activity and other issues that may arise during the client and field visits.
- Communicates credit policies and procedures and objective standards and parameters for individual loans to credit officers.
- Reviews collection report per individual credit officer taking note of delinquent payments and ensuring that corrective action is taken
- Timely compiling of branch quarterly / monthly portfolio reports and other reports, and submit them
- Maintain a health loan portfolio by following standard business operating procedures and guidelines.
- Manage and supervise the human resources of the Branch and maintain high levels of staff productivity and EFL’s customer services.
- Supervise the effective implementation of internal controls in line with EFL set policies and procedures.
- Prepare periodic performance reports as per the reporting schedule of the Branch activities on a monthly, weekly basis.
Stakeholder Engagement and Customer Relations
- Act as a liaison between the credit team and clients, ensuring all loan-related customer issues are resolved promptly.
- Foster positive client relationships through regular engagement, upholding respect and integrity.
- Promote ELEGLANCE products and services, encouraging cross-functional collaboration for growth.
- Assist management in developing and implementing an expansion and market penetration program including new products and expansion into new areas, and in identifying new business opportunities.
- Contributes to the overall profitability of the company by implementing cost controls, marketing and income generation efforts, and monitoring expenses to ensure compliance to budget.
Training and Capacity Building
- Develop and deliver training programs on credit policies, loan appraisal techniques (e.g., cash flows, security), and recovery procedures.
- Evaluate credit officers' performance, offering guidance and support to enhance productivity and compliance.
- Encourage teamwork and the sharing of best practices, conducting planning meetings and appraisals for individual credit officers.
Personal Specification
Education & Certifications:
- The ideal candidate must hold a Bachelor’s degree in business administration, commerce, Economics, Microfinance, Development Economics or any other relevant business-related course from a reputable university.
- Holding a Master’s Degree or post graduate in credit management is an added advantage.
Essential Knowledge and Experience
- Candidates should have at least 5 years ‘and above working experience in credit administration.
- Candidates must be knowledgeable in computer applications especially MS Office and should be aged between 30 - 40 years
- Must be able to ride a motorcycle and should possess a valid riding permit.
- Excellent communication and negotiation skill.
- Knowledge of Microsoft excel for data entry and analysis is essential and mandatory.
- To ensure success as a credit manager, you should have extensive experience with credit analysis, proficiency with accounting software, and high-level analytical skills. A top-class credit manager adds value to a company by optimizing the mix of sales to bad debt losses
