Job Description/Requirements
Responsibilities:
Championship Organization:
- Oversee overall championship planning, execution, and coordination.
- Ensure alignment with championship objectives, themes, and values.
Stakeholder Engagement:
- Collaborate with schools, educators, parents, sponsors, and stakeholders.
- Foster partnerships with educational institutions, organizations, and government agencies.
Debate Format and Rules:
- Develop and implement suitable debate formats and rules.
- Ensure consistency with national and international debate standards.
Venue and Logistics Management:
- Secure suitable venues, equipment, and materials.
- Coordinate catering, transportation, and accommodation (if necessary).
Team Registration and Coordination:
- Manage team registrations, confirm participant details, and communicate with schools.
- Ensure teams understand competition rules, format, and expectations.
Judge Recruitment and Training:
- Identify, recruit, and train judges (experienced debaters, educators, or professionals).
- Develop and conduct judge training programs.
Sponsorship and Fundraising:
- Secure sponsorships, grants, and donations.
- Develop and implement fundraising strategies.
Marketing and Promotion:
- Develop promotional materials (posters, social media, press releases).
- Coordinate media coverage and publicity.
- Budgeting and Financial Management:
- Manage championship expenses, sponsorships, and fundraising.
- Ensure transparent financial reporting.
Evaluation and Improvement:
- Conduct post-championship evaluations and gather feedback.
- Recommend improvements for future championships.
Risk Management:
- Identify and mitigate potential risks (e.g., safety, logistics, controversies).
Communication and Reporting:
- Provide regular updates to stakeholders, sponsors, and the steering committee.
- Ensure timely communication with teams, judges, and volunteers.
Requirements:
- Degree in Education, Communications, or related field.
- Proven experience in event management, education, or debate.
- Excellent communication, organizational, and leadership skills.
- Familiarity with Ugandan primary school curriculum and education system.
Desirable competences
- Experience with national or international debate competitions.
- Knowledge of debate formats, rules, and judging systems.
- Familiarity with event management software and technology.
