Job Summary
The Field Agronomist will be responsible for providing on-site agronomic services and expertise to farmers. The role will involve working closely with clients to improve crop production, promote best practices in agriculture, and ensure the effective application of company products, such as fertilizers, seeds, and agrochemicals.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct field visits to farmers, farmer groups, and agricultural cooperatives to provide technical guidance on crop production, soil management, and integrated pest management.
- Develop and implement extension programs to promote sustainable agricultural practices and build relationships with farmers, farmer organizations, and local authorities.
- Conduct demonstrations, trials, and training sessions on best agricultural practices and monitor and evaluate crop health, growth, and yield.
- Collect and analyze data on crop performance, soil health, and weather patterns to inform agricultural decision-making.
- Prepare and submit reports on field activities, farmer engagement, and project progress, maintaining accurate records of farmer interactions and training sessions.
- Represent the company in local events, workshops, and conferences, building partnerships with local organizations, NGOs, and government agencies to promote agricultural development.
Qualifications & Experience
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science in Crop Science or a related field
Desired experience
- At least 3 years of experience in agronomy, crop production or agricultural extension services.
- Experience working with farmers, farmer organisations or agricultural cooperatives.
- Experience in conducting field trials, demonstrations and training farmers
Key skills
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to train and facilitate farmer groups.
- Fluency in local languages.
