EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor’s degree in pharmacy from a recognized institution.
- Valid pharmacist license.
- Previous experience in a hospital or clinical pharmacy setting is preferred.
- Strong knowledge of pharmacotherapy and clinical pharmacy practices.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Medication Dispensing and Counseling
- Review and interpret physician orders to select appropriate medications.
- Accurately compound, label, and dispense medications.
- Provide comprehensive medication counseling to patients, including dosage, administration, and potential side effects.
- Ensure patients/care takers understand their medication treatment and address any concerns.
- Review documentation to confirm that appropriate pharmaceuticals were in fact provided to the beneficiaries.
Patient Medication Therapy Management
- Monitor patient medication therapies and provide necessary interventions.
- Conduct medication reviews and reconcile patient medication lists.
- Identify and resolve drug-related problems, including drug interactions and contradictions collaborate with healthcare providers to optimize patient medication therapy
- Manage medication errors and support the drug utilization system.
- Respond to medication related queries from within the hospital and from patients and their relatives
Supervisory function of Pharmacy staff
- Assist in hiring necessary pharmacy staff.
- Analyze training needs and institute training for staff members, provides adequate training for pharmacy staff.
- Provides feedback to pharmacy staff on their performance and recommend appropriate action based upon performance.
- Formally and informally appraises performance of pharmacy staff as needed (annually and otherwise)
- Determines what work is to be done and allocates it.
- Serves on the drugs and therapeutics committee
Medication Safety and Compliance
- Ensure pharmaceutical services are implemented according to internationally accepted standards and/or relevant Ministry of Health guidelines.
- Maintain accurate records of all medications and supplies, ensuring proper storage and handling.
- Assist with the development and implementation of hospital policies and procedures related to pharmaceutical matters.
- Implement and adhere to medication safety protocols to prevent medication errors.
- Conduct regular audits and inspections to ensure compliance with standards.
Inventory Management
- Manage and maintain pharmacy inventory, including ordering, receiving, and restocking medications and supplies.
- Conduct regular inventory checks to identify and address shortages or discrepancies.
- Optimize inventory levels to minimize waste and ensure the availability of essential medications
- Provide oversight for the ordering of drugs and medical commodities and any Gifts in Kind (GIK).
- Work with the logistics and finance departments to ensure regular and adequate pharmaceutical and medical commodity levels are maintained to prevent stock outs.
- Coordinate with the Medical Director, and Procurement & Inventory Supervisor to ensure correct demobilization and proper disposition of pharmaceuticals.
- Ensure the medicines are stored appropriately and securely to maintain freshness and potency.
Clinical Support and Research
- Participate in clinical rounds and provide pharmacotherapy recommendations to the healthcare team.
- Conduct research to aid in the development of new drugs and therapy methods.
- Contribute to the development and implementation of clinical guidelines and protocols.
- Provide support for clinical trials and research studies as needed.
Participation in Meetings
- Attend and participate in department meetings as scheduled
- Attend and participate in general co-workers’ meetings as scheduled.
Continuing Professional Development
- Identifies and pursues continuing professional development activities in line with their position and maintains professional records that provide evidence of activities completed.
- Works with one’s supervisor to guide in mentorship and coaching for continualprofessional growth.
