Job Description/Requirements
Main duties and responsibilities:
- Ensure the proper implementation of library cataloging and classification standards.
- Monitor usage of Library IT equipment, and liaise with the University ICT Services (UIS) to ensure they are well maintained.
- Support the administration of library systems, working closely with the Library Systems Support and University ICT Services to ensure secure and efficient access by users
- Review the Library website links and content and liaison with the University ICT Services Webmaster for maintenance and update.
- Provide training and support to library staff on the use of systems and technical services procedures of various library technological platforms and applications.
- Assist in the administration and training of users on the use of the Institutional Repository in liaison with the Scholarly Communication Librarian.
- Develop strategies to optimize the access to and use of library resources, including providing guidance on the use of library services, and addressing user inquiries, concerns, and feedback related to technical services.
- Conduct regular quality control checks to maintain the integrity and consistency of the library systems, catalog records, and class numbers of the library materials.
- Assist in the promotion of the library's electronic resources.
Qualifications & Experience:
- Must have a Master’s degree in Library and Information Science or a related field from a recognized institution of higher learning
- Must have a Bachelor’s degree in Library and Information Science or a related field from a recognized institution of higher learning
- Must have at least 3 years of library-relevant work experience with a minimum of 1 year in a supervisory role within an academic library setting.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, especially in library technologies.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with academic staff, students, the ICT unit, and other stakeholders.
- Experience with integrated library systems (ILS) and familiarity with MARC, AACR2, RDA, DDC, and other cataloging and classification standards.
- Demonstrated experience in managing digital resources and electronic collections.
- Experience in managing library technologies and systems including Koha ILS, DSpace, website management, etc
- Collaborate with other library units and assigned faculty or school to provide liaison services.
