Job Description/Requirements
To maintain power adequacy and grid reliability, availability
and stability by constantly analysing the performance of the current and
future demand supply power and energy balance and grid system.
Requirements
• Bachelors in Electrical engineering with a minimum of 7-10 years’
experience in power systems planning.
• Must have undergone training and demonstrate experience in the use
of PLSCADD, Digisilient, PSSE power system simulation tools.
• A master’s degree in Power systems would be an added advantage.
• A person of integrity, highly motivated, innovative, proactive and
committed team player.
1. Annually prepare the Grid Development Plan in line with the Section
objectives.
• Actively participate in updating the Grid Development Plan and the
Grid investment Plan in line with the Section objectives.
• Prepare annual national load forecasts for the different loads
centres, and the country as a whole and generation planning and
timing to provide operation reserves as required by the grid in line
with the Grid Code Requirement using software such as EViews.
• Assess and optimize existing and future generation plants
(including hydro, thermal, solar, wind etc.) using power simulation
models e.g. PMA/BID, - according to national and international
standards.
• Conduct power system studies such as load flow analysis, short
circuit analysis, steady state stability analysis and dynamic studies
using PSS/E or Digisilient software.
• Participate in the preparation of long-term development plans for
the transmission network in line with the company objectives and
to conduct technical analysis of candidate grid investment
projects according to national and international standards.
2. Determine the network configuration for optimum operation of the
network to increase reliability, security and availability of transmission
network in line with the grid code requirements
3. Regularly update the demand-supply power and energy balance of
the Uganda power system in line with the sector and Company
objective.
4. Monitor equipment performance and percentage loading through
maintaining an up-to-date system demand database for the various
substations and through annual update of the substation load
forecast thereby recommending mitigation measures for any
foreseeable system constraints in line with Company objective.
5. Actively participate in preparation of feasibility studies;
• To participate in the supervision of feasibility studies according to
the pre-set terms of reference.
• To prepare solicitation documents e.g. Request for Proposals,
Tender Documents, Terms of Reference, specifications pertaining
to activities/projects under the planning Section as assigned by
the Senior Power Analyst.
• To conduct technical and socio-economic analysis of candidate
grid investment projects according to national and international
standards
• To prepare the monthly project and studies progress reports to the
Manager Grid Planning as required by company objectives.
• Train and develop UETCL staff recruited for the company and
students from Universities and tertiary institutions in operational
planning activities in line with Company Human Resource process
and provide technical knowledge to other Sections/Departments
on issues pertaining to the power system network performance.
