Theme: “Career Advancement for Future Professionals”
The Career Day was hosted by Unicaf University and BrighterMonday Uganda to assist learners and jobseekers as well as career starters in building the skills, knowledge, and networks they need to achieve career advancement and job satisfaction.
The Event took place on Wednesday, October 26th 2022 at the Sheraton Kampala Hotel. It was graced by the keynote speaker Mrs. Geogette Ndabukiye, the Co-founder & MD of Wazi.
About the Event
On Thursday, October 26, 2022, Unicaf University held its Career Day with BrighterMonday Uganda for undergraduate learners that need flexibility, quality, and internationally recognized degrees.
Keynote speaker Mrs. Geogette Ndabukiye from Wazi shared insights on how to get the most out of your education by engaging in extracurricular activities like volunteering in your community.
The conference was held at the Sheraton Hotel in Rwenzori Ballroom, which had 200+ attendees, along with partners and speakers including Mrs. Geogette Ndabukiye (Co-founder & MD of Wazi).
Talk by Ms. Dorothy Mukimba
Dorothy Mukimba, the senior marketing manager at Unicaf University informed the attendees that the university is part of the Unicaf organization which collaborates with prestigious international universities like the University of East London, the University of Suffolk, Liverpool John Moores University, and the Unicaf University which has campuses in Uganda, Zambia, and Malawi.
She pointed out that there are generous scholarship opportunities and programme offerings for students at all levels, which range from Bachelor’s to Ph.D. programs,
for example, Bachelor of Business Administration, Bachelor of Law, Master of Public Administration, and Doctor of Business Administration.
Talk by Mrs. Geogette Ndabukiye
It’s not about the money alone. That was one of the messages from Ms. Geogette Ndabukiye during her keynote address at UNICAF University’s Career Day event. It is important to remember to be open-minded and prepared to develop new skills, as well as take on any opportunities for jobs.
Ms. Ndabukiye shared her own experience, including pursuing a degree in Law at Makerere University and starting and running her own company in 2017.
She explained the challenges she had to face in order to be successful in these positions, such as the new skills she needed to learn. She explained her prescription eyewear brand, designed, manufactured and distributed in East Africa.
During her speech, Ms. Ndabukiye said: Volunteering in your community is one of many ways you can engage in extracurricular activities outside in order to find your path, which not only expands your professional network but also boosts your skills.

Closing Remarks
On the theme of Future Professionals and their career growth, the keynote speaker shared some key takeaways not measuring oneself with the deeds of others and knowing which skills are the best ones to meet one’s goals in the future.
She also spoke about how it is important to have a mentor or someone who will help you be your cheerleader on this journey of career advancement.
